A short collection of some of the best places to go and find that perfect new recipe with just the click of a mouse.

It's Friday night. There's a great old movie playing on the television and there are going to be ten other vegans knocking at the door in just a few hours who are ready for a night of fun and feasting. The recipes in your vegan cookbooks from college have all been tried but a recipe needs to be found fast because there are only a couple more hours before the guests arrive.

Lucky for many vegans with little time and a thirst for something new and tasty, there are plenty of places to visit on the internet with different, exotic, and original recipe ideas.

Vegweb

Vegweb is a web site featuring tons of recipes from users. The recipes are organized into categories, such as appetizers, breads, dips, and pastas. The website also features links to new recipes and popular recipes. Each recipe is rated by up to five stars and reviewed by other users. User comments can be very helpful in certain situations, such as if the recipe needs another ingredient, or more or less of an ingredient.

To use some of the really cool features that Vegweb offers, an account is required. After signing up, it is possible to submit recipes; use the recipe box feature, where recipes found on vegweb can be organized into categories that the user has created; create a grocery list of items needed for a specific recipe; and finally, create a meal planner of vegweb recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day of the week.

There are literally hundreds of recipes to try, some popular recipes include:

  • General Tao's Tofu- a stir-fry of pressed tofu, broccoli, and ginger.
  • Incredible Vegan Carrot Cake- including a recipe for vegan cream cheese frosting!
  • Vegan French Toast- with thick bread and just the right amount of sugar, it's a perfect breakfast addition.
  • Egg McVegans- a well-known fast food breakfast gets veganized!

Blogs

There are tons of blogs out there devoted to vegan food. Some focus more on vegan baking, some on raising vegan kids, but all feature loads of tasty treats and some really helpful reviews. Also, starting a blog is a good way to join in the online vegan community. To find some of these blogs, just visit your search engine of choice and type in "vegan blogs." From there, the blogs will have listed links to other blogs and so on. Most bloggers create their own recipes to share with their readers, so there are always new things to try.

Search Foreign Recipes

Sometimes, the best place to find a new recipe is to "visit" a new place. Many foreign countries have completely vegan recipes, or have recipes that can be easily made vegan. Again, a simple google search will do the trick, but here are a couple of good places to start.

Other Recipe Web Sites

There are a lot of recipe web sites available for viewing. Recipezaar is a good one that features some vegan recipes, as well as allrecipes. Recipezaar is unique because it's allows the user to search for recipes based on specific ingredients—something that comes in handy when the cupboard is bare, except for a bag of almonds, some barley, and two cans of black beans.
